Investor CRM
An investor CRM built for founders
An investor CRM is where a founder tracks a fundraise: every investor in the pipeline, the stage they are at, what was said, the next follow-up, meetings and what they committed. Raisebook is a free, open-source investor CRM built for startup founders. It does that for every round, keeps each investor's history across rounds, and lets your coding agent update the pipeline over MCP.
Investor CRM vs sales CRM#
A sales CRM tracks deals that close for revenue. A raise has a different shape: one round with a target, an instrument (SAFE, priced round, convertible note) and a close date; dozens of investors moving through the same stages at once; soft and hard commitments that add up against the target; and relationships that carry into the next round. A fundraising CRM (another name for an investor CRM) is set up for that from the start, so you do not have to build the pipeline yourself.
What to track per investor#
| Field | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, firm, title, type | Who they are: VC, angel, family office, corporate VC, accelerator, scout. |
| Email, LinkedIn, website | How to reach them, and how to tell two entries for the same person apart. |
| Check size range | Whether they can write the check your round needs. |
| Stage | Where they are: New, Researching, Contacted, Replied, Meeting, Diligence, Committed, Passed (Raisebook's defaults). |
| Fit (0 to 5) | How well they match your stage, sector and size, so the best fits get attention first. |
| Owner | Which founder is on the conversation. |
| Follow-up date and note | The next thing to do and when. The single most useful field. |
| Timeline | Emails, calls, meetings and notes, in order, so nobody asks the same question twice. |
| Commitment | The amount once they commit, adding up against the round target. |
How Raisebook works#
- Investor pipeline. Rounds with a target, instrument (SAFE, priced, convertible note), cap and close date, and stages you can rename, recolor and reorder. Default stages: New, Researching, Contacted, Replied, Meeting, Diligence, Committed, Passed.
- Three views. Triage to decide on new investors one at a time (number keys, undo), a kanban Board you can drag, and a sortable, filterable Table. A ledger strip shows committed against target, the funnel and follow-ups due.
- Investor files. One file per investor, shared across rounds: stage, fit, check size, follow-up, notes and an append-only timeline of emails, calls, meetings and notes. Dedupe on email, LinkedIn and name + firm.
- Follow-ups. Every investor can carry a follow-up date and note; Today and the ledger strip list who is due or overdue.
- Meetings and a calendar feed. Schedule meetings from an investor's file (it moves them to Meeting), see today's meetings, record the outcome and next step, download .ics files, and subscribe from Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook with a private feed URL.
- Investor research with AI. On demand, on your own OpenRouter key: a short, cited dossier per investor (recent deals, thesis, a way in, an opener, a risk). Every fact cites a source. A monthly spend limit per workspace ($25 by default) and no markup.
- MCP server and REST API. An MCP server with 21 tools (26 with research on, as on raisebook.org) for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Claude Desktop (through mcp-remote) or any MCP client that can send an API key header, and a REST API under /v1. Web-only connectors (claude.ai and ChatGPT connectors) need OAuth, which Raisebook does not offer yet. Agents cannot delete anything over MCP, and every write shows on the timeline under the agent's name.
- Import and export. CSV import with column mapping, preview and dedupe (from Google Sheets, Excel, Airtable or Notion). CSV and JSON export of a round, all investors or the whole workspace, at any time. Hard delete of anything.
- Team. Co-founders and advisors as owners, editors and viewers (up to 20 members). Sign in with an emailed link or with Google.
- Phone layout. The pipeline, board and triage work on a phone, with touch-sized controls.
- Open source and self-hostable. AGPL-3.0. One repository holds the API, the MCP server, the web app and the Docker Compose deploy files.
Details are in the docs; the price is $0.
Who it is for#
Founders raising a pre-seed, seed or Series A round who have outgrown a spreadsheet: solo founders and small founding teams who want an investor pipeline with follow-ups and meetings, do not want to pay per seat, and do not want their investor list pooled into someone else's database. It also suits founders who work with an AI coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and want it to log calls and set follow-ups for them.
What it is not#
- It has no investor database to search: you bring your own list (CSV, by hand, by agent, or with research on investors you already have).
- It does not send email to investors and has no investor-update newsletters, data rooms or KPI reporting.
- It is built for founders raising money, not for VC firms managing deal flow or LPs.
If you need one of those, the comparisons say which tools cover them.
Questions
What is an investor CRM?
An investor CRM (or fundraising CRM) is a tool for tracking the investors you are raising from: who they are, which stage of your pipeline they are in, what was said, the next follow-up and what they committed. It replaces the investor spreadsheet once the list gets long. Investor CRM for founders.
What is the best free investor CRM for a seed round?
Raisebook is free with no paid tier and tracks up to 20,000 investors and 50 rounds per workspace, with stages, follow-ups, meetings and an MCP server. Other free options have caps: Foundersuite's free plan tracks 75 investors per pipeline, Visible's free plan has 2 pipelines, and Attio's free plan allows 3 seats. Free investor CRM.
Is there an open-source fundraising CRM?
Yes. Raisebook is open source under AGPL-3.0. You can use the hosted version at raisebook.org for free or run your own copy with Docker Compose. Self-hosting.
When should I move off a spreadsheet?
When follow-ups start slipping, a co-founder needs to work the list with you, or you cannot tell who said what last. Raisebook imports the same CSV, so the move takes minutes. Spreadsheet vs investor CRM.
